Orca Harassment Reported off San Juan Island
July 17, 2001
(From an email received from Cynthia Hubbard.)

On Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 4:00 PM on San Juan Island, we observed a whale watch boat from Canada running South from Lime Kiln Park about 50 feet offshore with many whales and boats outside of the boat. He made a 90 degree turn west and motored out to within 25 feet of two of the whales and cut his engines and sat as the whales moved away from him. The boat was aluminum color, double-decked, twin hull with Canadian flag on both sides of the hull, aft. Guests were suited in bright red coats. Unfortunately, we could not read the name of the boat, but everyone on shore was upset by the boat's behavior.
